WP4 – Operation and control of distribution grids with multiport converters

Lead Beneficiary: IREC

Project Objectives: The main objective of WP4 is to ensure a stable and secure integration of the multiport converters with the network and their elements. This work package aims to lead the multiport converter to become the distribution network brain.

The multiport converter must be providing services for power quality and grid support in a local manner such as the voltage stability, harmonics and frequency by using local measures as well as taking advantage of the various sources, grids connected to each port.

Due to the advanced controllability and communication capabilities of the multiport converters, grid-wide controllers can be developed in order to optimize the behavior of the whole grid such as the efficiency, balancing, congestion management, control coordination by exploiting the existing flexibility connected to the multi-port converter.
