WP2 – Power Electronics design and control for MV applications

Lead Beneficiary: CTH

Project Objectives: The aim of WP2 is to design and develop a reliable and efficient multiport power converter for MV applications and the main focus is to develop and rank high-power density multiport converter topologies that are scalable and with reduced footprint, for easier integration in medium-voltage grids as compared with the more traditional solutions.

The isolated, non-isolated and hybrid converter topologies with higher efficiency compared to the case where each port is connected through a dedicated power converter, investigating different modular approaches, using shunt and series cell connections, investigating the advantages offered by wideband gap semiconductors, such as SiC and developing control and modulation strategies, aiming at improving the system’s dynamic performance and at the same time reducing the risk for control interactions.
